Arlington Heights police responded about 7:50 PM Wednesday to a report of a man with a knife in the 1400 block of east Hintz Road at Rosati’s Pizza. Police received a report that a man was in the Rosati’s establishment and was threatening an employee with a knife. There was some uncertainty initially whether the emergency was an armed robbery or a dispute. The police had the suspect in custody within three minutes.

As police were responding, they learned that the armed robber’s mother arrived on the scene as the robbery was underway. Two customers were able to exit the store safely, while at least one of the customers was yelling at the offender. The mother of the suspect apparently was able to get the knife away from her son before police arrived. Police were sorting out the details of exactly what happened Wednesday night.

The man was transported in custody by police and Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital.

Buffalo Grove police assisted Arlington Heights police.
