Authorities in Santa Cruz, California were searching today for an inmate, Maurice Ainsworth, 24, who escaped about 11:30 a.m. Monday morning and is considered armed and dangerous.

While at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz finishing up with an MRI, Ainsworth punched a female deputy while he was being re-shackled, used a stun gun on her, and took her .40 caliber handgun. The manhunt prompted lockdowns at area schools and evacuations of homes.

Ainsworth is described as a male/black 6’7″ 275 LBS and wearing a brown jacket and plaid pants.
