Wind Damage Report for Wednesday, Large Tree Fire in Wheeling on Wilshire

Crews all over Chicagoland were busy with scene like the one managed by an Arlington Heights Public Works Foresty Department crew on Douglas Avenue, just north of Olive Street.

Damage reports coming in after winds kicked up about 11:10 a.m. Wednesday.

2:15 p.m. Tree down blocked the street in the 400 block of Patton, Buffalo Grove
2:30 p.m. Large tree on fire in the 900 block of Wilshire near Schoenbeck and Dundee, Wheeling

Also in Wheeling, but time uknown …
Man rescued after becoming trapped under tree branch near Wolf and Strong in Wheeling. Power line possibly in proximity.

2:42 p.m. Light pole blown down at Panera Bread, 1224 West Dundee, Buffalo Grove
2:43 p.m. Large tree branch blocking the road at Dunton and Maple, Arlington Heights
2:44 p.m. Tree uprooted across the road at Covington Terrace and Golfview Terrace blocking whole road, Buffalo Grove

3:00 p.m. Union Pacific utility police snapped near base and waving in the wind Northwest Highway and Arthur, Arlington Heights — Northwest Highway eastbound lanes were shut down because pole was at risk of falling into eastbound lanes.

3:21 p.m. Light pole falls over fire station driveway, 505 West Dundee, Buffalo Grove
3:23 p.m. Tree down in the street on Douglas near Olive, Arlington Heights
3:24 p.m. Large tree fell on an electric utility polie in the 700 block of North Vail Avenue, Arlington Heights

3:53 p.m. Tree uprooted/broken at trunk base on Dwyer, just north of Grove, Arlington Heights
4:02 p.m. Lights out due to power failure at Golf Road and Algonquin Road, Arlington Heights/Rolling Meadows
4:03 p.m. Branch in the road at Dryden and Euclid, Arlington Heights
4:26 p.m. Tree down on power lines, smoke showing from tree, 400 block of South Evergreen, Arlington Heights
4:51 p.m. Liner from pickup truck blew partially into roadway near Pine and Fremont, Arlington Heights
5:39 p.m. Tree limb down across the cul-de-sac, 1500 block of West St. James, Arlington Heights

Elsewhere, in South Bend, Indiana, a Notre Dame student died after the hydraulic scissor lift tower he was using to gather video images of football practice, tipped in high winds. The name of the male student has not been released.

In Chicago, winds ripped off the roof of an auto repair shop and knocked down three utility poles. A fire started at the building and a firefighter was injured when he received at the fire scene in the 4300 block of West Division Street about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Also in Chicago, high winds spread the fire from one home to two others next-door. The extra alarm fire was raised to a 3-11 or third alarm at the fire scene in the 1700 block of Altgeld near Diversey and Clybourn.

One firefighter twisted an ankle. Another got an electric shock. Three additional ambulances were called to the fire scene about 2:45 p.m.
