Matthew Leone, 35, was about to meet his brother Nathan at a bar just before 1:45 a.m. Tuesday when saw a man and wife arguing in the street in the 1300 block of West Ohio Street. Leone stepped in to calm the fight. When the fighting couple were separated Leone stepped back and called 9-1-1, but was attacked from behind by the husband in the domestic battery. The husband beat Leone unconscious, and the husband and wife fled together.

Matthew was conscious when police arrived, and able to give some brief details to police, but by the time he arrived at the hospital, he was unconscious. The head injury required surgery to alleviate pressure caused by swelling inside the skull. Part of Leone’s skull was removed to relieve the swelling. Since the surgery, Leone is expected to make a full recovery.

Matthew Leone and his brother Nathan Leone grew up in Palatine and perform together in the band Madina Lake.

The offender, who was arguing and striking his wife after she arrived home late, was apprehended and charged with domestic battery. No word on any charges for the attack on Matthew Leone.
