Electrical Box Fire with Power Outage at Tanglewood Apartments

Arlington Heights Fire Department responded about 8:15 p.m. Monday to fire in an electrical fault. Comed had been working in the area at Tanglewood Apartments in the 2100 block of South Tanglewood when sparks and fire erupted in electric vault. Firefighters used three dry chemical extinguishers to extinguish the fire. Mount Prospect Fire Department assisted Arlington Heights Fire Department. The fire was extinguished about 8:40 p.m. Monday.

Several apartment buildings were without power since about 7:00 p.m. Firefighters evacuated residents from at least two buildings in the 2100 block of South Tonne Drive. A witnesses reported that the power went dim about 7:00 p.m. and then there was a power outage. Com Ed workers were working a the apartment complex when a resident reporting seeing flames and sparks coming from a green electric box.

Firefighters stood by with water and dry chemical extinguishers until Com Ed isolated the power from the unit. Then firefighters attacked the fire with dry chemical extinguishers. Other firefighters stood by with a charged hose line.
