A Stone Park police officer was shot in the face about 2:54 a.m. Saturday while conducting a traffic stop at Mannheim Road and Division Street, Stone Park. The Stone Park police stopped a car for “suspicious activity” near the intersection when someone in a nearby strip mall opened fire on two officers. The officer is reported to be shot in the face, resulting in an injury which is not life threatening, but may require surgery.

Police do not think there is a connection between the traffic stop and the shooting. However one person involved in the shooting was arrested and one person involved in the traffic stop was arrested.

The West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is involved in the investigation of the shooting.
