Arlington Heights police and firefighters responded about 11:20 p.m. Friday to a car that crashed into a tree on Salem Avenue just north of Campbell Street. The female driver was transported to Northwest Community Hospital and later released to police custody for a DUI arrest. The driver’s Oldsmobile Alero with severe front end damage and New Mexico license plates was impounded by police.

About 11:00 p.m. an Arlington Heights police officer had reported an ‘extremely reckless’ driver all over the road in the area of Sigwalt Street and Ridge. The driver was on both sides of the road and traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer may have been on bicycle patrol at the time, and unable to catch up with the car. Other police units arrived in the neighborhood, but by 11:20 p.m. the car had crashed.

One other car may have been clipped in the crash.
