Shooting at Financial Firm Above United Texas Bank at High Rise on Merit Drive, North Dallas

Original reports that a shooting occurred about 10:30 a.m. Monday in a United Texas Bank on the first floor of an 18-story high rise building at 12000 Merit Drive in North Dallas: Actually a financial firm on the third floor run by a father and son is the location of the shooting at the building known as the Four Forest Building. Reports of three people shot in a shootout. The suspect reportedly shot himself in the head after some type of exchange with police. The exchange occurred after the father and son associated with the financial firm were shot in or near Suite 310. The suite is listed as Smith Financial Firm. The father and son are identified as Richard Smith, 66, and R. Chris Smith, 39. Both suffered several gunshot wounds in the shooting.

Originally there were reports that some employees and customers were locked in a vault, but apparently it was the building that was in lock down after the shooting.

Dallas Fire Department Engine 23 on the scene along with multiple ambulances and police units.

The crime scene is near Medical City Dallas Hospital.
