Homeowner Warns Bartlett Firefighters: Uh, The Garage Is On Fire and There’s Ammo Exploding Inside

Bartlett Fire Protection District responded about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday to an attached garage fire that extended to a two story home at 29W171 Hill Court. Early in the fire, exploding rounds of ammunition were heard as ammo that was stored in the garage became heated from the fire and detonated. The detonations sounded like gunfire. A mutual aid extra alarm box was called at the scene of the house by Bartlett Fire Protection District at about 8:00 a.m. Fire departments from Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, and Roselle assisted Bartlett Fire Protection District.

The fire extended to the two-story home causing severe damage to about one-half of the entire structure. The homeowner warned firefighters that ammo was stored in the garage. A camper and another vehicle was also injured.
