South Elgin Second Alarm Fire in a House on Wills

South Elgin Fire Department is fighting a house fire in the 300 block of Wills Street. Firefighters were originally fighting a fire just before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday predominantly in the basement of a two-story house. The fire extended to other areas of the house. Firefighters were ordered out of the house and firefighting operations switched to a defensive mode about 2:20 p.m. A box alarm to the second level was also called about 2:20 p.m.

Fire departments assisting South Elgin include Elgin, Geneva, Hampshire, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District, St. Charles, and others. The house is located just west of the Fox River and the Rox River Trolley Museum. The fire department staging area is at the intersection of Collins Street and Medford Drive. Collins Street is blocked during firefighting operations.

Firefighters were being called from staging to the scene geared up with self-contained breathing apparatus and thermal cameras at 2:35 p.m.
