Cicero FD: 7 People Killed in Apartment Fire on 48th Court

Cicero Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 3034 48th Court about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. The fire burned through the roof of the apartment house style building and trapped several residents. The fire killed a 3-day-old male baby, a 3-year-old boy and 16-year-old male and female twins, a 20-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman.

The dead have been identified by family as Byron Reed, 3 days old, Rayshawn Reed, 3, Elijah Gist Jr. and Elisha Gist (16-year-old twins), Tiera Davidson, 18, Byron Reed, 20, and Sallie Gist, 19. Possibly up to five of the victims were not recovered until a prolonged search of the severely burned building was completed.

The fire also spread to a neighboring coach house.

Three firefighters were injured during firefighting operations.
