Senior Scam: Offender Says He’s from Public Works, Charges $40 to Read Meter

MON JAN 11 2010 LATE REPORT– On Monday about 1:45 p.m. an elderly woman got a knock on her door in the 1100 block of South Highland Avenue from a man who said he worked for public works and that he needed to read a meter. He said there was a charge of $40 to read the meter. The woman paid the offender $40. The offender left in a black SUV. The woman’s son called Arlington Heights Public Works Department and the public works department reported the incident to the Arlington Heights Police Department. Arlington Heights police are investigating.
