Floods, Sixth Rainy Friday, October 2009 Has Most Rainy Days in 84 Years

A flooded intersection at Northwest Highway and Chestnut Avenue with a semi-trailer cab making a big splash from the right lane of westbound Northwest Highway. An Arlington Heights Public Works crew responded immediately to clear the drains at Chestnut and Route 14.

October 2009 had 22 rainy days. The 139-year average is 12 days of rain per October month. Through October 30 at 7:30 p.m. Chicago O’Hare International Airport has recorded 5.71 inches of rain. And to top of those rainy stats, Friday October 30, 2009 marked the sixth consecutive rainy Friday.

On the bright side, this morning was a balmy, gulf air-type of a day with light rain and temperatures hitting at least 66°F.

A Flash Flood Watch was issued for our area, and a Flash Flood Warning was issued for Thorn Creek at Thorton, Illinois in Cook County. Arlington Heights had several local flooding issues, may compounded by drains clogged with leaves.

Arlington Heights Public Works crews were busy clearing drains around town.
