Derrion Albert Beaten to Death Near Fenger High School in Chicago

UPDATE: Four teens charged with murder for the beating death of Derrion Albert. Eugene Riley, 18, Silvonus Shannon, 19, and Eugene Bailey, 18, were charged with murder on Monday, Sept, 28, 2009. A fourth teen, presumably underage for public disclosure was also charged with murder.

Derrion Albert appeared to have walked nearby a fight near the Agape Community Center. Most or all of the teens in the fight were among students from his school, Fenger High, which is about four to five blocks west of the crime scene.

The Agape Community Center’s surveillance cameras captured the beating death of Derrion Albert, who was headed to the community center near Fenger High School in the 300 block of West 111th Street.

About 12 teens were in the mob — some armed with wood sticks as large 2×4’s at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Innocent … Derrion Albert was struck during the fight. Some of the offenders kicked Derrion Albert while he was down on the ground. During the fight, the mob grew to at least 50 people.

After being helped by Agape Community Center employees and apparently carried in the front door of Agape Community Center, Derrion Albert was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
