Los Angeles Times Analysis Finds LAPD’s Crime Map, Database 40% Short on Actual Crimes

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Police Department’s public online crime map lapdcrimemaps.org omitted about 40% of serious crimes that occurred in the city over the last six months. About 19,000 incidents between January 1, 2009 and June 13, 2009 were omitted. The crimes included 26 homicides, 137 rapes and over 10,000 personal vehicle or other nonviolent thefts.
