Fake? O’Hare UFO Video Released on YouTube

Video of recent release claiming to be evidence of the November 7, 2006 UFO sighting near O’Hare.

On November 7, 2006 about 4:30 p.m. ground crew radio chatter at O’Hare International Airport started reporting that an object was hovering right above gate C-17 (See excellent witness account here … ‘The November 7 O’Hare UFO Sighting‘). The UFO appeared to be hovering right below the ceiling of the cloud cover (about 700 or 800 feet). The cloud ceiling that day was 1900 feet. The top of the craft was clearly outlined as a very dark gray material, but the bottom and the edges of the craft were reported to be hazy … like when you see the mirage-like surface of the road on a hot day. Witnesses reported that the diameter of the UFO was estimated to be about 30 feet or 10 meters.

OFFICIAL O’HARE WEATHER REPORTS at time of UFO sighting at 4:30 pm …

4:51 PM 53.1 °F 48.0 °F 83% 29.81 in 5.0 miles SW 4.6 mph – N/A Haze

On March 21, 2009 a video was released with the source claiming to have a cell phone video of a cigar-shaped UFO “well over 100 meters in length.” The video shows a dark disk or cigar-shaped UFO with a jet (MD-80) that appears to be taking off in the background (the source claims the jet flew under the UFO). The size report from the latest source is in serious conflict with the report from witnesses the day of the incident. It is unlikely that there was a second UFO that would have been missed by the previously-known witnesses. A magnitude of 30 feet and “100 meters” is a big, big difference.

The sky in the background appears to show cumulus clouds in the lower two-thirds of the frame and blue sky in the upper third of the frame. That sky is in conflict with witness accounts and official weather data (overcast and mostly cloudy, ceiling 1900 feet, not broken). Also the amount of light in the sky is too bright for a day in the first week of November at 4:30 p.m. in Chicago. Sunset was at 4:38 p.m. on November 7, 2006. With only about 10 minutes before sunset of a low, Winter sun on a cloudy day in Chicago, the image would probably be a lot darker. It is possible the phone affected the appearance of the lighting, but that is doubtful.

Except for the jet on takeoff, there are no distinguishing landmarks that could associate the video with the O’Hare location.

The audio is also suspect. November 7, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. was rush hour on a Wednesday in Chicago — near O’Hare. There are no sounds of passing cars, freight trucks or any jets taking off or landing. That area is a bustle of energy at that time of day.

This latest account, even though there is video, is not as credible as the accounts from witnesses reporting immediately after the event.
