A telephone caller identifies himself as an officer of the court and says you failed to report for jury duty and that there’s a warrant out for your arrest. But you never received a notice. The caller states he’ll need some information for “verification purposes” — your birth date, social security number, maybe even a credit card number. If you give this information, you give the necessary information for identity theft … a crime that could empty your bank accounts and ruin your credit.
As a rule, court officers never ask for confidential information over the phone; they generally correspond with prospective jurors via mail … more from the official archives of the FBI …

A boy in a stroller was reported in critical condition at Children’s Memorial Hospital after he was rescued by Chicago Fire Department. He was unconscious when pulled from the harbor, and reportedly had been underwater for nearly 15 minutes. The grandfather was also rescued by Chicago Fire Department in the aftermath of his attempt to rescue his grandson. He was reported in fair condition at St. Joseph Hospital, where he was being treated for exposure.
Chicago Fire got a call at 2:36 p.m. Friday to respond to the 3200 block of North Lake Shore Drive for a report of a person in the water.
The grandfather was pulled out of the water almost immediately, and then divers had to go underwater to search for the baby, who was still strapped into the stroller.
The water temperature was 42 degrees and the water was 10 to 12 feet deep in that area of Belmont Harbor.
