Caller: Gunshot [unintelligible] Oh my God.

9-1-1 Call Taker: Hold on. Get everybody in out of the way. Get everybody out of the way.

Caller: We’re gettin’ out of the way right now.

9-1-1 Call Taker: OK. Hold on. Don’t Hang up.

Caller: OK. I’m not.

9-1-1 Call Taker: Who’s got the gun?

Caller: I don’t know … ma’m, but they’re in their shootin’ … I’m outside.

9-1-1 Call Taker: Inside? They’re shootin’.

Caller: Yes. They. They … Inside … they’re shootin’  OK I’m sorry.

9-1-1 Call Taker: Hold on … Is anybody shot?

Caller: Yes … some lady customer … right here there’s … she’s shot

9-1-1 Call Taker: Hold on.

While touring Rio de Janeiro and Christ the Redeemer statue, found a jet heading west-southwest over Rio de Janeiro. Of course, the jet won’t be there when Google updates this image.

Summer is ending in the Southern Hemisphere. Some in Sydney, Australia say it never arrived.

Sydney weather stats:

No day greater than 31 degrees celsius (88 degrees fahrenheit) this summer for the first time since 1956.

Average daily sunshine (6.7 hours) was one hour less than normal and the lowest since 1991-92.

Copacabana Beach begins at Princesa Isabel Avenue and ends at Posto Seis (lifeguard watchtower Six) near the Forte de Copacabana (Fort Copacabana). Beyond Copacabana, there is the small Arpoador beach, followed by the famous borough of Ipanema (to the west).

Rio de Janeiro engineer Heitor da Silva Costa designed the O Cristo Redentor, which was then sculpted by Polish sculptor Paul Landowski — a French monument sculptor. O Cristo Redentor is made of steel with outer layers of soapstone, chosen for its enduring qualities and ease of use (softness for carving). Construction took nine years — from 1922 to 1931. O Cristo Redentor was unveiled on October 12, 1931. An observation deck surrounds the statue and offers beautiful views of Rio de Janiero and the Atlantic Ocean.

UPDATE: Body identified as James Schwertfeger, 43, of Romeoville.

At 11:02 p.m. The Cardinal received a tip that a body was in the roadway and was lying in the left lane of westbound Interstate 90. An unidentified man was apparently hit by a Toyota Camry as he crossed the roadway on foot. The impact caused fatal injuries and serious damage to the front grill and hood of the Toyota.

Soon afterwards, emergency crews were working in a westbound lane of I-90 east of Route 53 and west of Arlington Heights Road [MAP/SAT] shortly after 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Westbound I-90 was subsequently blocked at Arlington Heights Road and all north and southbound ramps to Arlington Heights Road were blocked during emergency management and investigation. Arlington Heights Fire Department normally responds to emergency medical calls and accidents on the involved portion of the Jane Adams Tollway.

The Jane Adams Memorial Tollway is the new name for the Northwest Tollway.
