Physics teacher and “The Voice” of varsity night football games on Friday nights and varsity basketball games, John E. Harth formerly of Arlington Heights died Thursday, February 28, 2008, in San Diego. A memorial service for John E. Harth, 84, of San Diego, Calif., will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, 302 N. Dunton, Arlington Heights [MAP/SAT]. Born June 6, 1923, in Arlington Heights, Mr. Harth was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a retired teacher for Arlington High School and was former president of District 214 Teachers’ Association. He was the husband of Ruth Harth; father of Fred (Joy) Harth and Karen (Dave) Kotovsky; grandfather of Jordin, Cameron and Karissa; brother of MaryJane Slattery and the late Florence Dalton; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Beloit College Science Center, Development Department, 700 W. College St., Beloit, WI 53511. Arlington Heights Fire Department quickly knocked down a house fire at 315 South Waterman Avenue in Arlington Heights shortly after noon. Two women were transported to Northwest Community Hospital as a result of the fire. The fire was in a one-story ranch that possibly started in the kitchen.
Harvard University has responded to the request of six Muslim women’s religious request by closing the Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Center to men from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays.
Ola Aljawhary, a student and a member of the Harvard Islamic Society, said the women-only gym is needed because a segment of the Harvard female population doesn’t workout because co-ed gyms are “uncomfortable, awkward or problematic.”
Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, in Washington D.C., said modesty may prevent some Muslim women from exercising in a co-ed environment.
The decision has caused in the opinion columns of school newspapers. Most comments deride the decision.

News comes fast every day. Some of it is incomplete. Some of it is wrong. Fitness is a luxury in prosperous times. Fitness is a necessity in tough times. Strength, stamina, injury prevention and disease prevention are priorities, especially in tough times. 1. Exercise everyday. 2. Lift weights 3-5 days per week. 3. Get cardiovascular exercise 3-5 days per week. 4. Walk every day. 5. Learn posture and anatomy and optimal body mechanics for safety and injury prevention. 6. Drink plenty of water. 7. Learn nutrition and healthy eating. 8. Learn your optimal consumption of macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein and fat) and consume accordingly. 9. Get enough rest and sleep. 10. Be intelligent: Learn and adapt to the changing world.
