Patrick O’Neil, Will County Coroner

Geraldo Rivera on FOX NEWS Friday night criticized Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil for his original ruling with a coroner’s jury that concluded that Kathy Savio (third wife of Drew Peterson) died by accidental drowning in a bath tub in March 2004. Rivera also referenced disbelief that Patrick O’Neil has the courage to run for re-election (patoneil.com: “honored to have the opportunity to serve 4th term as your Will County Coroner”).

Rivera commented that Patrick O’Neil had the audacity to stand with Will County State’s Atty. James Glasgow and say he had questions himself about the death of Kathy Savio. Rivera blamed O’Neil for not getting important evidence to the coroner’s jury in 2004. The coroner’s jury in Kathy Savio’s case never heard information that Drew Peterson was mysteriously missing the same early morning hours time frame as the time of death of Kathy Savio.  Stacy Peterson, who was living with Drew Peterson at the time of Savio’s murder, woke up to find Drew Peterson doing laundry at about 6:00 a.m. the same morning. The coroner’s jury never heard that, among other evidence. Also, one of the coroner’s jurors was a colleague on the Bolingbrook police force with Drew Peterson. When Bill O’Reilly asked if O’Neil could be charged criminally, Rivera recommended that the Savio family sue O’Neil in civil court.

On Nov. 13, 2007 — four years after the first autopsy of Kathy Savio — the second autopsy was performed on the exhumed remains of Kathleen S. Savio. The final report by Dr. Larry W. Blum released this week concluded the cause of Kathleen Savio’s death was drowning and the death was homicide.

The latest autopsy (actually the third autopsy) performed by Dr. Michael Baden, a New York pathologist, who did the autopsy at the same time as the latest official autopsy by Dr. Blum, found significant trauma to the body. When Dr. Baden examined Savio after her body was exhumed, more than 10 black and blue marks existed on her chest and abdomen, indicating blunt force trauma, according to Baden.

Kathy Savio had a one-inch blunt trauma laceration on the back of her head with a lot of blood in her hair, indicating a beating during a homicidal drowning. Kathy Savio’s body also had numerous contusions and an obvious red abrasion on her right wrist. Although the bathtub was dry, her hair was wet when she was discovered and her fingertips were wrinkled from being in water.

Dr. Baden concluded that Savio died after a struggle, and her body was placed in the bathtub.

Patrick O’Neil’s training in his field includes a Masters Certificate Forensic Science from St. Louis School of Medicine and a Master of Science in Forensic Science from Southern Illinois University.

O’Neil is a member of numerous associations, including American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators, Internal Association for Identification, and the American College of Forensic Examiners.

Patrick O’Neil is former Director of the O’Neil Funeral Home — a family business established in 1917.

Dr. Michael Baden is the former Chief Medical Examiner of New York City and is presently the chief forensic pathologist for the New York State Police. He received a B.S. Degree from the City College of New York and an M.D. Degree from New York University School of Medicine. Baden is also host of the HBO “Autopsy” series.

Police released copy of Higley Unified School District School Bus video showing verbal and physical confrontation between a bus driver and a student.

The female student and possibly other students are reported to have been distracting the bus driver with arm action and talking, although this is not shown on the video before the bus driver stops the school bus.

The driver questions the student regarding why she is on the bus, but does not allow her to exit the bus.

The verbal confrontation escalates and becomes physical — involving the bus driver’s daughter, who is also a student.

Students are heard calling 9-1-1 when the fight becomes physical and students are also seen exiting the bus streetside out of an emergency exit on the driver’s side of the bus.

White Tavern, at 423 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville, and Crazy Rock, a strip club in Romeoville have been named in a DUI-related wrongful death lawsuit. Douglas Long, 60, and his 53-year-old wife, Margaret of Darien were killed early Jan. 28, 2006 by a driver who is alleged to have been intoxicated and was also killed after he ran a red light at the intersection of 63rd and Main streets.

Michael Heise, 23, of Chicago, who attended a holiday celebration with co-workers at the bars also died in the crash. His blood alcohol content level was reported to be .169 to .204 percent. The legal limit in Illinois is .08 percent. The complaint claims that Heise became intoxicated while consuming about 19 drinks in eight hours.

The bar and strip club are being sued under Illinois’ dram shop liability act. Currently civil law does not define intoxication as .08 percent, which is the legal limit in criminal cases. However, a plaintiff expert testified that Heise was three to four times above the minimum amount to be considered intoxicated, according to his weight, BAC and length of hours drinking.

Former Chicago Bear Linebacker Jim Schwantz plans to hold a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday at the Palatine train station to officially announce his candidacy for Palatine mayor.  Schwantz was born and raised in Palatine and attended Fremd High School.

He played for the Chicago Bears in 1992 and was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 1994, where he spent three seasons and played on the Super Bowl XXX winning team.

Schwantz played for the San Francisco 49ers as a restricted free agent in 1997 and then finished with the Chicago Bears  in 1998.

Schwantz still works in the area as a Bears pre-game and post-game host and interviewer on WBBM 780-AM. He also works as an account sales manager at  Von Sydow’s Moving and Storage company in Palatine. He’s also a motivational speaker and helps several local charities.

Incumbent Mayor Rita Mullins has held the office since 1989.

A Dallas police motorcycle officer, Senior Corporal Victor Lozada Tirado, has been involved in an accident at about 9:20 a.m. during escort operations for Hilary Clinton’s motorcade to a campaign rally in Oak Cliff.

A witness in WFAA-TV’s helicopter said the police officer was thrown 20 yards when the motorcycle hit a 3-foot wall and that another police officer appeared to be doing CPR after the accident.

Video of the accident scene shows a severely damaged Kawasaki 1000 Police Special motorcycle with parts lying near a retaining wall along the South Houston Street Viaduct near Reunion Boulevard East [MAP/SAT]. Extensive paramedic efforts to help the injured officer were also reported.

In 2007 a police officer was killed during motorcade transit for President George W. Bush in Albuquerque, N.M. Also, a fatal crash occurred during a presidential motorcade in Hawaii in 2006.
