A late morning accident Monday at Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road involved one car sliding into a light pole. Slippery conditions caused several accidents at the intersection, but the accident with the light pole knocked the pole onto some powerlines with the pole appearing unstable to emergency workers. Most of the intersection was closed in all directions for about two hours until Arlington Heights Public Works and Com Ed were able to repair the damage.
Arlington Heights Police had several cars tied up for hours to manage traffic flow. Many drivers avoided road blocks by jumping curbs into shopping centers, so extra cars were needed to keep traffic from speeding and sliding through shopping center parking lots.
