THU NOV 27 2008 — Grenade attack on protesters occupying the Thai prime minister’s office killed one person and wounded 29 on Thursday.

Protesters have vowed not to leave the grounds of Government House until the allies of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whom they accuse of corruption, are removed from power.

At least four people were killed and 17 injured Thursday in a suicide car bomb attack on a convoy of U.S. troops near the U.S. Embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

The blast occurred about 8:30 a.m. when a man driving a Toyota Corolla detonated a load of explosives about 200 yards from the U.S. Embassy.  U.S. military vehicles passing by were the apparent target, but no U.S. soldiers were killed.

All  casualties were Afghan civilians. The explosion occurred in rush hour traffic and damaged cars and blew out windows of several apartments in a nearby high-rise.

The last major attack Kabul took place on July 7, 2008 when two suicide car bombers hit the gates of the Indian Embassy, killing at least 60 people and injuring 140.

NOV 24 2008 — A one-car accident killed two teens and injured three teens near Cuba Road and Crestview Drive about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The accident scene was near a stretch of road that is commonly driven at high speeds for the thrill of “hilltopping” where the rolling road causes cars to go airborne at the peaks of hills on the road.

Killed were Daniel Vicario, 15, and Lilia C. Bueno, 14, who was ejected from the back seat was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Lake Zurich fire departments worked on the extrication of four teens from the wrecked 2007 Chevy Cobalt, which was apparently eastbound on Cuba Road when it left the road and hit a white fence and a group of trees.

Vicario was flown by helicopter to Level One Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died.

Martin Solis, 15, Luis Solis, 13, and Yareli Mendoza-Solis, 8 were injured in the crash and were released from Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Wednesday.
