HAZMAT: Truck Spills Unknown Substance at Northbound Tri-State (I-294) and Willow

Glenview Fire Department is managing a HAZMAT incident at the Tri-State Tollway and Willow Road, specifically the northbound right lane and the exit ramp to Willow Road. The call for help for a semi-trailer truck leaking an unknown substance was received about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and the fire department operations to manage the scene are expected to last throughout the day. Prospect Heights Fire Department has sent a water tanker truck (tender) to assist Glenview Fire Department.

Originally the I-294 northbound right lane and exit ramp at Willow Road were blocked, but at 9:20 a.m. the NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC IS BEING DIVERTED OFF AT DEMPSTER AND NORTHBOUND LANES ARE BEING BLOCKED. SOUTHBOUND EXPRESS LANES CLOSED AT LAKE COOK RD.

Fire department crews have discovered that four drums of an unknown substance are leaking from the semi-trailer truck. Fire department HAZMAT crews are removing the drums and securing the scene.
