Boston Blackies Restaurant and Bar had a fire in the kitchen exhaust hood about 8:00 p.m. Saturday. A fire that started in a grease fat fryer extended up a kitchen exhaust hood, but quick firefighter action knocked down the fire. An automatic extinguisher and quick work from the Arlington Heights Fire Department contained the fire. Arlington Heights firefighters reported that the fire was not extinguished upon arrival and that the restaurant at 222 East Algonquin Road [MAP/SAT] was being evacuated. Mount Prospect Fire Department sent a fire engine to assist Arlington Heights Fire Department.
Ladder Tower 1 crew checked the roof in below zero weather.
A fire crew was sent to the roof to look for extension of the fire from the kitchen to the roof, but no firefighting was necessary on the roof. The building was completely evacuated and the restaurant was closed to the public for the night.

An Oprah.com reader signed on as austaz68 posted she “cannot believe that women all over this country are not up in arms over Oprah’s backing of Obama. For the first time in history we actually have a shot at putting a woman in the White House and Oprah backs the black MAN. She’s choosing her race over her gender.”
Several discussions attracted hundreds of comments. Some accused Winfrey of racism for supporting Barack Obama when such a well qualified woman as Hillary Clinton was running, but many of the comments do not support the claim that she is choosing race over gender. In fact, many of the responses took on their own spin. One reader complained the Oprah involvement in the Obama campaign wreaked of her typical sales pitches that she sells to “her public.”
I am also very dissapointed [sic] that Oprah has chosen to get actively involved in the presidential campaign! I find it very innapropriate [sic] of her to be promoting Obama like this. She is a talk show host that should really try to stay neutral and keep herself out of the campaign. If she wants to feature the candidates on her show that’s fine but this whole Oprah tour for Obama stinks! It feels like she is trying to sell Obama to her public just like she does her books and the other products that she constantly pushes on her show. I for one will not be manipulated into buying into the empty suit of a candidate that the media creation Obama is.
Others defended her right to her opinion, just like any other citizen voter.

It’s the “Home of the Honkers” not the “City of Good Neighbors” that has a controversy. And it’s Mayor Carmen Kontur Gronquist, not Arlington Heights, Illinois Mayor Arlene Mulder, that has some residents upset. It’s not Mayor Gronquist’s failure to lower water rates as promised, or a plan to close a golf course, that has sparked a controversy. It’s a media leak that put a spotlight on a photo published years ago of Mayor Gronquist in lingerie while standing on or near the running board of one of Arlington’s emergency fire trucks.
FOX News reported that photos published on MySpace were taken before Carmen Gronquist was elected the first woman Mayor of Arlington, Oregon [MAP/SAT]. Serving a population of about 600 people, Carmen Kontur-Gronquist is also the Arlington Fire Department’s executive secretary. The photos were taken in the Arlington firehouse before she was elected mayor three years ago. She did not think to remove the photos from the Internet social networking website after taking office. A group of residents are not pleased with how the news reflects on the reputation of the Arlington community. A concerned citizen’s group is asking for her immediate resignation and may proceed with a recall.
