One Dead: Third and Fourth Major Crash on Tri-State Tollway Edens Spur in Two Weeks

Two crashes today on the Edens Spur mark the third and fourth major crashes on the Spur in a two week period.

Northbrook Fire Department requested a mutual aid Life Safety Box at about 11:40 a.m. Friday for a multi-car crash at the the Spur and Waukegan Road. One of the crashes resulted in one fatality. The first crash involved at least five patients with at least one ‘red’ triage category patient transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A second accident involving a flat-bed semi-trailer truck carrying cement barriers and multiple cars occurred on the Edens Spur about in line with Revere Drive in Northbrook. The second crash was east of the first accident and involved a semi-trailer truck driver trapped in his cab. Both accidents involved extrication. A University of Chicago Medical Helicopter (UCAN) was called to the scene, but was not needed.

Fire departments from Deerfield, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Morton Grove, and Mount Prospect and others were called for mutual aid for Northbrook Fire Department.
