An Arlington Heights police officer on patrol found a burglar stripping parts off of a car in the parking lot of a Marathon gas station at Old Buffalo Grove Road and Hintz Road about 1:00 a.m. Sunday. The burglar fled on foot and a foot pursuit ensued. The Arlington Heights police officer called for backup, describing that he was chasing a male Hispanic with a brown or dark hoodie and light, tan pants. A Buffalo Grove police officer found a male out of breath and missing a shoe on Sheldrake Drive, but without the hoodie. A matching shoe was found back closer to the crime scene and the original officer identified the offender, who apparently removed the hoodie to alter his appearance from his description during sighting by the original officer.
