Palatine FD Rescue Suicide Attempt: Man Jumped Off Bridge To Railroad Below

Loyola Lifestar medical transport helicopter arrival and departure during airlift of a man who fell onto railroad tracks after falling from the Dundee Road (Route 68) bridge near the border of Palatine and Barrington.

A man was found on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks after a caller reported that he jumped from the Dundee Road (Route 68) bridge near Northwest Highway (Route 14) just after 2 pm Sunday. The victim apparently attempted suicide by falling on the railroad tracks after jumping from the bridge.

A rescue operation with a Palatine Fire Department ladder truck and special equipment was called to the scene to evacuate their patient from the railroad tracks via slippery embankments.

Trains along the track route were halted until rescuers cleared the scene.

Spinal precautions and trauma care precautions were administered by Palatine Fire Department paramedics and Loyola Lifestar was requested to the scene. The victim’s condition has not yet been released. He was transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.
