GPS Devices Targeted By Chicago Suburban Thieves — Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and More

High rates of GPS theft reports are occurring from vehicles in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect — just about any suburb is reporting a high amount of global positioning systems thefts out of vehicles that are parked outside. Some suburbs are experiencing one or more thefts of the $100-$900-devices per day. Most devices range from $250 to $500.

Here are some reported locations of recent GPS thefts in Arlington Heights:

Falcon Drive (800 block East) near Forest View Racquet and Fitness Club
Vail Avenue Parking Garage 22 S. Vail near Dunton Tower Apartments
Sheraton Northwest parking lot near Euclid and Rohlwing Road
1200 Block of Old Wilke Road
Mallard Cove Apartments
2700 Block of North Windsor
Toyoda Machinery parking lot in the 300 block of West University Drive
Motorola parking lot 1455 Shure Drive near Kennicott and Dundee

The thieves are often leaving other electronic devices untouched.  Many of the crimes are occurring overnights from Friday night to early Saturday morning.

Items in cars should be kept out of site. Historically thieves will steal anything out of a car: purses, pocket change, candy, tapes, CD’s, gloves, anything.
