Does Imus Have Room to Claim that Rutgers Women’s Basketball Teammates Have Nappy-Heads?

The Don Imus Hair-Do.

Just why do people get themselves into trouble with comments when they might be better off if they just look in the mirror and keep quiet?

nappyhead defined on UrbanDictionary.com

1. nappyhead …  a term used to describe someone (typically of African descent) who possesses tighly coiled, very curly hair. Though often used as a slur, insult, or indicator of self-loathing the term is often used to express an individual’s self-love, individuality, uniqueness and beauty.

2. nappyhead …  an African or African American or anyone of African descent who wears that hair natural and has one of the many textures of woolly-like (nappy) hair.

I have since become a ‘nappyhead’ because I decided to stop relaxing and using chemicals and decided to let my ‘nappy’ hair shine it’s all god-given glory.

3. nappyhead … a black man who desperately needs a haircut because his hair is bad or rough.

Somebody needs to take the clippers to that nappyhead over there!

Keywords: nappy head, nappyhead, nappy-head

M-1 — Are Rappers Who Criticize Don Imus Hypocrites?

On FOXNEWS Neil Cavuto interviewed rapper M-1 and asked him the question of hypocrisy comparing the firing of Don Imus and the plethora of rap lyrics that use the word ‘ho’ and other words that are derogatory towards women.

Neil Cavuto:  M-1, I know that this is not your parent company, but NBC Universal owns Interscope Records, which has, under its employ, a lot of rap artists who routinely say stuff like you’ve just said and worse. And, NBC is OK with that, not OK with Don Imus making an errant comment. Do you find that, just as an artist, hypocritical?

M-1: No, I don’t find it hypocritical mainly because of our relationship to the system — our relationship with our oppressor. Once again, with personal responsibility taken at hand here, we’re talking about rappers who are coerced to say things other than what the reality of our community is and Mr. Imus, who obviously has said sentiments that come from his personal beliefs. I think you are comparing apples and oranges here even when you bring the rap community into the question.

Sounds like fundamental attribution error. See it defined, click here.

Snoop Dogg — Are Rappers Who Criticize Don Imus Hypocrites?

Don Imus has lost his MSNBC show and CBS radio show for calling the members of the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy-headed ho’s.” So does that mean rappers who call women “ho’s” should now be in the spotlight. Are rappers that are criticizing Don Imus hypocrites?

Snoop says rappers are immune …

(Rappers) are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We’re talking about ho’s that’s in the ‘hood that ain’t doing sh–, that’s trying to get a n—a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain’t no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha—-as say we in the same league as him.”

Hypocrite Hall of Fame

To give some of these people credit, a person has a right to change their mind. Quotes taken with a long time interval in between statements could be excused, but simultaneous attacks and behavior would just have to be classified as hypocrisy.

Jim Bakker — televangelist who preached a gospel of prosperity, but was destroyed by a sex scandal which alledged he drugged and raped Jessica Hahm while she was a 21-year-old secretary. Later he was indicted on federal charges of fraud, tax evasion, and racketeering. He was convicted of fraud in 1989.

Jesse Jackson – pushed for Don Imus firing for calling respectable college woman basketball players ‘nappy-headed ho’s’ after he used the term ‘hymies’ to describe Jews.

Thomas Jefferson — author of the Declaration of Independence who owned slaves.

Jimmy Swaggart – minister who condemned sinners spent quality time with prostitutes himself.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION … more to come.

Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is common every day. It is a sign of struggle of classes, such as parents versus children, employers versus employees, bosses versus subordinates, political leaders versus citizens, religious leaders and followers, privileged and underprivileged, racial clashes and sex clashes. It is often a sign of a person’s own struggle with their own humanity to overcome a weakness.

At its worst, it unjustly subordinates and oppresses people. At its best, it causes an uproar and stimulates discussion and clean-up toward fairness and equality. Though hypocrisy is frequently invoked as an accusation in debates and often considered evil, immoral or deceitful; theorists have studied the utility of hypocrisy, and in some cases have suggested that the conflicts manifested as hypocrisy are a necessary or even beneficial part of human behavior and society.

Are hypocrites bad people? Not necessarily, but you be the judge. Check this column for news and alerts on hypocrisy throughout the world. The purpose is to point out behavior and dynamics, not attack people, because, well, that might be hypocritical.

News comes fast every day. Some of it is incomplete. Some of it is wrong. Often it is not connected with past news, so the information on TV, newspapers and magazines is often conflicting and confusing. Many people just turn off the news. The negativity is too much. Too many questions and not enough answers. Overly stressed, these people are wise enough to focus on affirmations and hope, but they miss opportunities and cautions. The Cardinal goal is to process news -- to inform and encourage connection of information, adaptation to news, and ultimately affirmation and the pursuit of excellence in human effort: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
