Elk Grove Village Fire Department is involved in a prolonged HAZMAT
operation for a truck collision that occurred about 3:00 a.m. at Higgins
Road and Bond Street. Higgins was blocked in both directions much of the
morning. One eastbound lane and one westbound lane was opened about noon
on Monday. Bond Street remains blocked as of the time of this report.
A fully loaded semi-trailer truck and a fully-loaded diesel tanker truck
were involved in the accident. The piping under the tanker was damaged
and caused diesel fuel to leak. Firefighters worked to contain the leak
and police worked to keep areas evacuated and to keep traffic a safe
distance away.
The EPA was called in to help with cleanup.
