Metra Train Hits Multiple Vehicles in Elmwood Park, Illinois (NOV 2005 VIDEO)

Five vehicles hit by a Metra train, followed by a chain reaction involving 12 more vehicles.  Orders to arriving companies, “Get all extrication tools up and running.”(video parts 1 & 2 from spfd39)

WED NOV 23 2005 — Thirteen people were injured in the vehicles, three critically. Some people required fire department extrication rescue procedures to free them from their cars. No fatalities were reported at the accident scene.

Three passengers were also injured on the train, which did not derail as it came to a stop.

The railroad crossing cuts through a busy diagonal intersection that runs into Chicago at 77th Avenue and Grand Avenue. The Metra North Central Service commuter passenger train was crossing just west of the Elmwood Park station (7600 W. Grand Avenue). [MAP/SAT]. Warning signs in the area state, “Long crossing. Do not stop on the tracks.”
