2ND DEATH REPORTED AFTER PRESS CONFERENCE

Police update the media on California high school shooting (Press Conference led by LA County Sheriff begins 1:09:00).

PRESS CONFERENCE, Santa Clarita, California: Law enforcement responded at 7:38 a.m. PT Thursday November 14, 2019 to the first 911 call reporting a shooting at Saugus High School, 21900 Centurion Way in Santa Clarita, California. The first police unit was on scene in 2 minutes, and police officer(s) discovered six victims with gunshot wounds. A handgun — a .45 caliber semi-automatic weapon — with no more rounds was immediately recovered at the scene.

Initial police officers on the scene initially assessed that a male/Asian shooter was one of the injured people with a gunshot wound to the head. The shooter was identified and police responded to his house. The shooter’s house scene was secured and contained by police and searched for any more victims. No other victims were discovered.

Police discovered that all the people with gunshot wounds were students at Saugus High School. The shooter was 16 years-old with his birthday today.

Police are interviewing students who are witnesses. The suspect girlfriend and mother are at the police station for questioning.

Security video at the school clearly shows the shooter pulled the weapon out of his backpack and shot and injured five people and then shot himself in the head.

The police and FBI say no other assailants were involved in the shooting

One female victim, age 16, passed away.

One male victim, age 14, passed away (Following the press conference during the question and answer period an additional death was reported — the male age 14).

A female age 14, a female age 15 and two males, age 14, were also injured, and one of the 14 year-old males died at the hospital.

The FBI has also responded to the scene. FBI agent Paul Delacourt, said the FBI crisis response resources are collaborating victim and witness interviews, and digital media acquisition. He said no known additional threats to Saugus High School or any nearby schools have been identified. The FBI and police know of no motivation or ideology connected to the shooting.

Daryl Osby Chief LA County Fire Department reported that 10 fire engines, 7 paramedic squads, and over 20 ambulances responded to the scene for rescue and EMS assignments.
